Secretary of State entity verification

  • Existence, status and entity type

Nationwide — not state-dependent. Street View coverage is Google's; rural addresses may have no imagery, and StateProof says so rather than showing a blank frame.

Reference only. StateProof does not search court dockets. NYSCEF requires a session and its terms do not permit automated retrieval, so this is presented as a link and never as a search result.

Public registry

The state offers a public search that StateProof has not integrated yet. You get the exact official URL. Access requirements for these SOS registries are not yet verified state by state, so StateProof does not claim they are free.

Account required

Free to search once you hold a state login. Flagged before you click, not after.

The state charges for search or records. Fees are the state's, not StateProof's, and StateProof never spends on your behalf without you choosing to.

Currently unavailable

The source blocks automated access — South Carolina's registry is captcha-gated today. StateProof will not pretend to search it, and will never return an empty result that reads like a clean record.

How results are guaranteed to be current

Every covered search hits the state's registry at request time. When a source is blocked, rate-limited or broken, StateProof returns temporarily unavailable — never “no records found”. That distinction is deliberate: a false empty on a UCC search reads as “this business has no liens”, which is the most expensive wrong answer this product could give.
